Hi there. I'm looking for a very cheap, lightweight monitor with a native resolution of 640x480 or 800x600. I want to use three of them in a multi-monitor setup. Strange desire, I know. It so happens that I'm strange. Can anyone lead me in the right direction? Is there any company that makes low-resolution monitors and sells them for a very low prices? I'd prefer they were lightweight, meaning LCD, but maybe I'm dreaming? Thx for any replies.

hmm...it actually doesn't matter much to me, but I assume such cheap monitors would be no bigger than 17". I'll take 15" or even lower. My main concern is price.

You're probably best finding a local company or auction that specializes in buying up surplus equipment from bankrupt companies or just hit up Craigslist. Assuming you want all the sizes to be the same, search for a common brand that lots of businesses use... "Dell 15" LCD" for example. Once you find a local seller, just make a single offer for the 3 monitors instead of pricing them out individually.

I have an older version of one of these. I have it mounted to a swing arm from an old lamp sitting next to my main monitor.

Some people mount small LCD's in cars (carputers?).. you may want to look at some forums catering to that niche as well.

Samsung U70:
http://www.engadget.com/2009/02/05/samsungs-syncmaster-u70-is-7-inches-of-extra-real-estate/

I have one on my server as a gagdet / System Monitor display.

Its powered Via USB, connects via USB.
All u need to do is insert drivers, and your ready to go if you need a small one.

They have touch screen versions as well, but those cost a lot. ~ 200 dollars vs the 100 dollar U70.

Oh and u cant get the U70 stateside though retailers.... you might need to go on Ebay.
Thats where i got mine.
