I am looking for a place to get the intel PIII MMC2 cpu for laptops. Pricewatch only has a few lower speed cpus.
I bought a gateway solo 9300 for 235 (35 shipping) on ebay with a 15" screen for those who are interested. It is missing all the bays (hard drive, floppy, battery), but you can find them seperately.

The bad part is that it only has a 366 mhz celeron cpu (MMC2). I would like to upgrade, but cannot find a source for mobile cpus that seems reasonable.

Any ideas ?

if it has the 366 celeron, you may only be able to upgrade to the 400mhz mmc-2 processor, I had a Micron laptop that took the MMC-2 processors. It would only go up to 400mhz. I tired a P3 MMC-2 processor as well as a faster celeron MMC-2 processor.

I dont really think it would be worth your money to increase only 33mhz. Last time I checked the 400mhz MMC-2s went for abotu $80.

JWade, thanks for the tip. I assumed I could upgrade because my laptop model (9300) comes with different speed chips up to PIII 650, but there may be something hardwired on the motherboard.
