=== Added question 5) ===

Hello everyone..

Since I live in USA and my friend who needs a cheap Laptop lives in Canada temporary... I need some suggestions as to where should i look for him... online or retail stores there..

Couple of questions...
1) Does Newegg ship to Canada ?
2) Is Dell.Ca the site for Dell in canada?

3) What about Tigerdirect does it ship to Canada?

4) I like some of those cheap Acer laptops... anyway i can get em shipped to Canada or do they sell em there?

5)Can You use these laptops with some kind of adapter in Europe where voltage is 220w instead of the 120 in US and Canada ? The guy needs to take it with him in Europe... for good.

Any other suggestions on some hot deals there that u might have id appreciate them...

thanks

Hi, the best place would probably be futureshop, and we have bestbuys up here now too. (though bestbuy now owns futureshop)

Newegg wont ship to Canada, but Tigerdirect.ca and NCIX.ca are good sites.

thanks... yeah tigerdirect has some killer prices for some refurbished pentium M gateways and thinkpads... for less than Cad$600 but i donno if anything could be wrong with these refurbished ones.... He only needs it for basic stuff like MS Word some internet surfing and simple stuff...

Now 1 more thing.... Can You use these laptops with some kind of adapter in Europe where voltage is 220w instead of the 120 in US and Canada ? The guy needs to take it with him in Europe... for good.

Stay away from Tiger IMO ... I don't like them and not many people I know will order from them anymore.... lost orders, bad Cust. Service and no clue what they are talking about.

Depending on where they are located.

(Canada west, also all ov Canada) NCIX - http://www.ncix.com/index.php

(Ontario) Canada Computers - http://www.canadacomputers.com/

(Alberta) Memory Express - http://www.memoryexpress.com/

Other then that Dell, Futureshop, Best Buy.

Tiger Direct (tigerdirect.ca) has a really bad reputation in Canada, I too would stay away. And yes, Dell.ca is Dell Canada.

The stores Finnkc linked are good stores to look at. There are Staples, Costco, The Source: Circuit City and Office Depot.

Other non-big box stores that are good to look at are Milestone PC and Direct Canada.

1) No
2) Yes - see RedFlagDeals.com for the latest .ca specific coupons & deals
3) Tiger sucks IMO, but they do have a Canadian warehouse
4) You get what you pay for, but cheap Acers should be available at Staples and FutureShop (.ca for both)
5) US/Canada laptops are the same, so as long as he gets a quality invertor there shouldn't be a problem

thanx for the reply... but what i meant in question 5 is can I use these laptops in Europe where the voltage is different than US or Canada... its 220 volts or watts instead of 110-120 in US and Canada... so Im worried about... Will he be able to use the laptop in EUROPE after he buys it in Canada ? Will he need some kinda converter or not.... if yes what kind ?

He will be fine, all he needs is a converter which you can buy at most travel stores.

Oh, and FWIW I have found most Futureshop laptops to be overpriced when compared to similar Dell systems on Dell.ca. I have also yet to find a decent laptop deal on NCIX, though I have not looked in a little while. Overall NCIX is great though.

I have also ordered a few things from DirectCanada and they did a great job. Very fast and everything came safe & sound.

Good luck!
