cheap land?

Is it possible to buy very cheap (<$500/acre) land somewhere without any kind of building requirements?

I mean even crappy land with no utilities or anything?

Some land in CO was looking at was 8k for 20 acres, but it took forever to drive out there. There wasn't a building requirement, and there were tons of listings in the same range.

Without doing any research, I bet you can find farmland in Iowa, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, etc. for that without a problem.

Seems like I saw some on ebay once in Texas that was even cheaper than that. The catch...no way of getting any utilities. That and the shipping was pretty high.

I don't know if the US have homestead laws/land or not.

Here in Canada we have land that can be homestead and the paper work is only a few hundred dollar, however the land require to be survey that cost thousands of dollar. And it require you to work the land (self sufficient/farming) for 5 years to become your private land, but often you can apply for early privatize land (in 2-3 years) so the government can collect property tax from it.

Homestead is the cheapest way to acquire land, however often the land are not service and are difficult to access.

The other option is to get farmlands in Norther Canada that aren't close to major town/cities that can be had for less than $1000 per acre.

Here is an example of 640 acre for $275,000 CAD -- or $388 USD per acre.

The U.S. ended its homesteading program in 1976.
