My father-in-law looked at the XBR2, as well as a now clearanced XBR1 for about $2000, he instead went with a 37" Panasonic, one of their top of the line models, much better quality than the Sony sets, full 1080p, dual HDMI, all that lovely stuff, for under $2000. Coupled with an upconverting HDMI DVD player (Samsung that does 1080p) most movies just look awesome.

That said, I don't get to see the XBR2 all that often. Probably only twice so far this semester as I'm too lazy to go home. I enjoy most of my time in front of my roommate's 20" Philips TV =).

i'd call u an ungrateful b**ch but i don't think anand would let me 🙂

life's not about tv...and i hope u didn't go up to your friend and tell him he made a bad buy. $2000 is a LOT of hours of work

So does my 50" Sony SXRD suck cause I got it for about $2k?
No but an XBR3 is better.

And hey OP, why did you cheap out and get an XBR2 and not an XBR3? 😉

Aren't XBR2's and 3's the same TV, but with different finishes?
XBR3 is the newer version and people have said it reduces the "green glob" people had on their XBR2s.

37" Panasonic what? I know it ain't a plasma because there aren't any 1080p 37" plasmas. And even if there were, it sure as hell isn't going to cost under $2000.

My bad, it wasn't a Panasonic. I'm a little tired 🙂

Sharp LC-37D90U

Great TV, both HD and SD looks good on it, lots of options, all that. HD sets are generally more expensive up here in Canada, especially on Vancouver Island (stuff costs more due to shipping here), he got a pretty good deal on it.

So is for the RP units or maybe the new line? Because according to this XBR2s and XBR3s in the LCDs are the same TV technologically, but the XBR3 has a different finish and black remote.

To anyone TV shopping I'd say to save yourself $2,000 and get a Samsung 50" or 56" 1080p DLP instead. See the GottaDeal main page.

Past a point you don't get what you pay for, diminishing returns set in.

ftw..

This thread is funny. The OP makes fun of his friends for buying cheap HDTV since that's all they can afford and then says his parents is much better, even though he nevers gets to watch it. I understand what he's saying in that sometimes you need to spend the money, but I'd say a cheap HDTV is better than no TV at all.

You might be right on that. I just remember people talking about the green glob on the XBR2, and the XBR3 took care of the problem for the most part.

I looked at the Sony...didn't buy it. Overpriced garbage.
I picked up the JVC LT40FN97. Same panel, better de-interlacer, and I paid a lot less. 🙂

QFT...

This thread is great. Your Parents TV that you have no affiliation with is better than your friends TV who actually bought it themselves.

Does your dad have a better car than all your friends too?

Does your daddy have a bigger house than your friends condo by school?

Only retards compare their parents stuff to their friends(who are half their parents age) stuff.

Same panel as which Sony model?
