Hey guys,
I'm currently building a new gaming rig and was looking for some general input. At the moment I only have a laptop pc but I do have a kb, mouse, monitor and speakers -- so I'm just buying the desktop case and components. In total, I am looking to spend about $800 maximum after shipping. Preferrably as cheap as possible without having to choose some real shoddy parts. Finally a quick summary of what I'll use this for:
*Casual gaming, but would like to be able to touch newer games (crysis included)
*Movies... lots of them
*General coursework -- m$ word, photoshop, firefox... general use
Anyways... here goes.
CPU:
I was thinking about getting the Phenom X4 940 for $230

The intel q9550 is going for about $280, and it seems to me that the performance and price difference between the two make the AMD a better choice. I'm pretty sold on the quad core, but I've also heard that dual core's are generally better performers at games and such... so that said, opinions on the dual vs quad core cpu?
Mobo:
This is where I could use some guidance... if relatively cheap, crossfire support would be nice, along with a decent feature set and something that isn't very cheaply produced. In short, a solid midrange motherboard. Looking through some of the posts I saw this motherboard reccomended..

Video:
I would like to game... so I was thinking of going with the ATI 4850. Newegg has a couple of them for $134 after tax. Would you guys think crossfire would be a good idea for future expandability?
Also, is the 4850 a card that is still worth buying? When it first came out, it was a solid buy... but my main question is whether or not this card is on the verge of becoming a low end card -- in short I would like to be able to use it with current generation games at solid mid range specs and games within the next year with reasonable settings.
Case and Powersupply:
Case -- I don't need anything fancy, just something that works. The thing is, I would like something with decent airflow and a sensible build. So I'd probably categorize that just above the really cheap cases. Thing is, I just don't know where to start as far as cases are concerned.
Power -- in short, something stable. I saw several different power supplies on newegg for around $50, but I want to make sure I'm getting a solid power supply before buying anything.
Ram:
DDR2 -- in short, it's plenty cheap so $50 max
DVD/CD Drive:
$20
Harddrive:
I'm pretty solid on this as well -- basically just finding a good balance of total cost and storage.
