I recently noticed a good handful of 22 - 24" monitors that have Freesync, usually with default ranges of 40 or 48 - 75Hz. This peaked my interest as my 6 year old daughter is really getting into Minecraft (and Rocket League!) so I built her a mini PC gaming battle station.
After many comparisons between different brands (AOC, Viewsonic, LG) I ended up ordering the Asus VG245H 24" monitor for $219.99 CAD.
There isn't a lot of info on these newer 75Hz 1-2ms TN/IPS HDMI 1080P Freesync monitors, but out of the choices in this price range this Asus looked like a decent deal. There's even a few LG panels with IPS displays for around the same price however very little info is available on them.
As this monitor is only for a 6 year old and I have limited space for her battle station I figure this will be a decent choice for an entry level gaming monitor. Normally I would go IPS but this Asus has a height adjustable stand (mandatory for TN IMHO) like the 27" premium models. I wanted fast input and low ghosting for her.
If anyone has any questions about this monitor let me know. I should be getting it sometime next week. I know we all like our expensive 27"+ 144Hz TN/IPS displays but there's a market for these lower end displays. If anyone else already has one of theses I would be interested to hear your feedback.
I should also say this is why I like Freesync. You can buy from a selection of lower end entry level panels for roughly $200 CAD or even much less if you go down in size, and there's almost no premium charged over previous gaming 60Hz panels.
Good times!
