Cheap/Free/Quick CCNA cert?

Ichinisan

Lifer
I just got a job installing Cable modems and doing techinical support for my local Cable company. I probably got the job because the number-two man in the company knows me personally and trusts that I "know my stuff". Before I start, I'd like to have CCNA certification as my future coworkers probably already have. I easily obtained A+ cert almost 5 years ago, and have picked up a good bit of networking knowledge on my own. Is it possible to get CCNA in less than one week? Are there any free study guides on the Internet?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

No problem. Call Vue or Prometric and sign up for the test ("801" is the combined Intro and ICND).

Cost is US$125.00 per test, I believe.

Download the Boson CCNA challenge test (~59.00 or 79.00 for the 801 test with a ~900 question pool).

If you want to preview the topics, check out Cisco's website.

Be careful when reviewing some of the brain dump sites, and free test question sites. We've (the training department at work - that's be me and some other folks) have reviewd several thousand questions from those sites and found anywhere from 20-40% of the answers are wrong. Many of the subnetting and ACL questions are so far out there as to be somewhat entertaining.

IMHO, stick with the commercial testing and review products: they're buisness depends on being as accurate as possible.

In addition to Boson, Self-Test Software (that's a company name) has some decent tests ... not as polished as Boson, but frequently on sale. they do not attempt to present exact or near-exact questions to the real test. If you can pass their pool with a decent score ( mid ninties consistantly) you are probably ready for the real thing.

Good Luck

Thanks. I need practice tests, but I also need a crash-course study guide or eBook. I figured that someone would have made a thorough (possibly free) guide by now.

It's a requirement for many technical support positions, especially with ISP's. It's usually considered to be better than CompTIA Network+ certification.
