Seems interesting but kinda ghetto. I just used 120mm fan silencer kit which basically has two 120mm rubber "cups" to put between your fans and the case as well as some rubber washers. This worked marvels for vibration noise and does not leave rubber bands hanging out the back.

Still, they get an A+ for simplicity and cheapness

I'm sure the rubber band trick will work fine but it's not likely to last too long; rubber will start to crack after a while. Just not sure how long "awhile" is?

I bought 10 of these panaflow fans for $2 each at SVC when they had a sale.
