Iv'e got a GiG of PC3200 RAM, a 400W PSU, and an AGP video card lying around. And I'd like to add the following items to that mix. What do you guys think and what changes would you make. This PC will be for storing music and other files and for playing DVD's and music. Eventually I'll grab a sound card for it.

AMD Athlon 64 3000+ Venice 1.8GHz

check out fs/ft forum. lot of people trying to get rid of 939 stuff for conroe and some good deals to be found

ASRock 939Dual-VSTA Socket 939 ULi M1695

I strongly recommend getting the TForce 6100-939. The VSTA is a piss-poor overclocker.

COOLMAX CS-460-Black W/O PSU

Hmm. Not that it matters much, but have you looked at the LCT line at supergooddeal? I've bought two and both have served me very well. Even the cheap power supplies that come with them don't buckle to modern loads, although I still don't recommend using them unless you have good reason.

The onboard nv 6100 video of the Biostar TForce 6100-939 is working well on my office machine, and the Biostar is passively cooled.

It has optical and coax digital out, and includes the bracket for them which many mATX motherboards don't.

I also had no problem installing a Zalman 7000-alcu for quiet cooling (haven't seen the CPU over 40C yet) and it's been 100% stable at stock speed after a couple of weeks of 8+ hour a day use.

and who's this for? your rig in your sig is hella better...

Right now I've got a Nvidia AGP 128mb MX440, 1 gig of PC3200 RAM and a PSU sitting around that I'd like to use.

This rig is to replace my POS EMachines rig that is storing music, videos, etc.... and sits in my living room to entertain when people come over.

The rig in my sig is for my fun gaming 🙂

How is the Biostar at OCing? And would the onboard 6100 be better than the 128mb MX440 I mentioned?

It overclocks better than the ASrock, and the onboard video is considerably better than an AGP MX440.

edit: Well, the onboard is probably only slightly faster than that slow old video card. It's pretty much the onboard version of this: PCI-E GeForce 6200

Thanks guys! any other ideas?

I found this CPU I might get instead:

Athlon 64 3400+ 2200 MHz 512 KiB 64$ OEM
HT: 800 MHz
Multiplier: 11x
1.35/1.40 V 67 W
Socket 939
ADA3400DAA4BZ

don't know how the 800 MHz HTT would effect an OC.
