why are they called "crack racks"?

Take a look HERE and you'll begin to get an appreciation for what we mean. 😉

Basically, eliminating the PC case can save alot of space and some money.. money better spent on more CPU power. People design their own racks of machines dedicated solely to crunching(or cracking) a DC project for their team, hence the term "crack racks". 🙂

Edit: I'm sure someone here could post some pics of the "Warp Core" or other crack-racks designed by fellow TeAm-mates!

Thanks, networkman, what a great link!!!
Could not stop laughing at the head guy's "Hillbilly Supercomputer"
You made my day, Thanks 🙂

I had the original links, but never saved off the pics and info. I wish I had of though. 🙁

"Crack" was the original term used for the first big project around here (distributed.net)

It was a brute force project to basically break(crack) code just to see if it could be done.

An Orange Kid sighting! :Q w00t! 🙂

I kinda thought that might've been a better answer for "crack" but I wasn't positive.. it's been quite a while since the days of d.net 😉

hey since all the ol'timers were dropping in I thought I'd drop by, we were all crack addicts back in the day, then distrib.net went sketch on us so we spread like buck shot and are splintered between the projects.
