Cheap cooler to replace stock HSF for Q9400?

Adequate if you're running stock in a well-ventilated case. I have a Q8300 and a Q9400 running under these in Antec NSK3480s (with integrated graphics); they idle around 30C and load around 50C with each case's tricool fan on low.

I dont know what you mean by cheap, but the above are a bit weak. I strongly suggest the Hyper 212+ from amazon.com for $30.

Its OOS at amazon currently. Says ships within 1-3 months.

I can also recommend the smaller version, the Hyper TX3. I got my i5 750 to 4GHz with it and it isn't overly noisy at max speed (the 212+ is noisier, but more powerful).
