Cheap Cisco Routers?

I am going to pursue a CCNA certification soon. I was wondering if someone could recomend a relatively inexpensive router that would fulfill the requirements of a CCNA without putting me into the poorhouse. 😉 Also if you could direct me as to where I might find one I would greatly appreciate it.

Well I know they dont come cheap, but at school they had like six of them that we played on and it was a hell of a lot easier to work with than these virtual ones. Is your reccomendation a 2501 model?

Get some 25xx's and maybe a 26xx and a 1900 switch for the ccna. It aint gonna be cheap though.

ha cisco routers are awsome.. some faster than my own computer (i saw one that was 200mhrtz risc.. which risc is faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaster than intel and amd's public cpu) (i spell risc right?)

you don't need routers for your CCNA cert. Just read the books and study.

They're nice to have, but not essential.

The idea of getting certified on routers without touching one is silly. The books can't replace the hands-on experience. I am studying for my CCNA,and the hand on experience really helps. By the way, I can sell you a fully functional Cisco 1720 dirt cheap.

Having just one router to play with won't help you much.

For a bit over $200, you can get a decent piece of software that acts like a whole lab full of routers. Helped me.... got my CCNA last year.

As long as the router runs IOS, you will be okay with it for the lower level certifications. You can look inso the Cisco 1000 series (1004, 1005, etc) and the AccessPro ISA cards also. dont forget the AGS+ (a tad outdated, okay ALOT, but use to be a core router)
as long as it has at least an ethernet interface you can use it to help you learn the system and networking in general.
