Both are under $40 and not sure which to choose.
only occasional gaming mostly picture editing

Leadtek WinFast A340T 128MB GeForce FX5200 2D/3D w/ TV-Out $39.00
Leadtek WinFast A180 B T 128MB nVIDIA GeForce MX4000 TV-Out $37.00

Or any suggestions for other cards around $40. A no-brainer for most, you guys have the knowledge right on the tip of your tongue, that would take me hours to figure out and I am just too tired tonight. I did try to find reviews with no luck. Tia

Thanks for the info. checked thru the FS/T forum $70. Will cut cost elsewhere and pick one up when one becomes available around the $50.

Don't worry about the fact that some of the Ti4200's are only 64mb ram, as they will smoke the FX5200 or MX4000 128mb cards at even high detail. The FX5200/MX4000 probably don't even have the GPU power to use 128mb ram anyway's 🙂

There have been quite a few Ti4200 64mb cards in the $40-$45 range used.

Comp USA has a 9200SE 128 MB for $30 AR.

I'm also a novice on video cards & would appreciate some feedback on this card.

Can it be OC?

Thanks

yes, my friend has a lowely overclocked ti4200 with 64mb's of ram and he can play HL2 and D3 on his athlon 2000+ and 512mb's of ram!

Still looks good with decent FPS too!

Another question. Been looking at these cards all have had heatsink and fan. However I found one on ebay
that has an oversized heatsink no fan.

I could not find this card on MSI site, maybe its made by another company for MSI or vise versa.
I guess my concern is cards with just heat sink, compared to heatsink & fan. Is that a sign of lesser quality?
Thanks again!

nVidia GeForce 4x TI 4200 AGP by MSI
This card features: AGP interface, 128mb DDR Video Ram, DVI out, VGA (15 pin) out, and TV out ; 4x
heat sink is oversized to dissapate the heat so it does not require a fan.

this one was already sold, but you can see the picture

not lesser quality, just lower clocked, probably... and u can always add a fan... but chances are the chip won't oc so well as it might have been put in this 'value' card since it wouldn't run at higher speed...

this is pretty common practice, they don't want to throw away parts so they make 'le' or someother kind of lemonaid out of the lemons...

avoid the mx4 series they are just overclocked DX7 geforce 2 cards. anyone know anything about ti4600s? how much are they now?

FX5200 hands down... I have a PNY version of the card and for 4 years it has been running flawlessly. Plus, 5200s run around 30-40, especially at FRYs when tehy have their sales. But in my opinion a 9600SE would be a better choice. Its a cut down version of the 9600 line but has a higher clock speed than the 5200s 250/400. I have an ASUS 9600SE and its running at 480/500 stock cooling.
