What's the cheapest cable modem that'll work with Comcast Cable? I don't feel like paying an extra $5/month to rent one anymore....

people are selling a Toshiba PC1100x or something

that's an awesome cable modem. I use it myself on Roadrunner. Docsis compliant.

It should work with whatever you're using.

I've seen it go for like 25-30 bucks

Diito. I actually gave up a Linksys BEFCMU10 to use a Surfboard 4200. The Surfboard is slightly more user friendly, and it doesn't lockup when downloading via Bit Torrent.

The 3COM HomeConnect (looks like a sharkfin) is discontinued, but works perfectly can be had cheap ($~25-30) on ebay, and I'm using it on Comcast now.

These are really good modems.
Want a good laugh about these? Charter is renting these for 5 bucks a month or will sell you one for only $299.00 in our service area.
