My younger bro spilled beer in his shuttle computer. Now it turns on for like 7 seconds and cuts out. Assuming the worst, what is a good cheap barebones I can get for him ? It is for a 3200+ and I would like the case "smaller", but not as small as the shuttle. AGP, ddr400, etc. Also what is a good fan for that cpu ? I believe I bought it oem b/c shuttle comes with its own version.

Also, what can cause a comp to post for 5- 7 seconds and turn off.

Thx

I couldn't resist. Definite party foul. Have you removed all unnecessary components to see if there was something you could remove and let it boot? And have you inspected the mobo / cleaned with alcohol ( ), I mean, isopropyl <sp> alcohol?

Let it dry, thoroughly, then take it out, test it with bar minimum, not even graphics card, just see if it will boot to post.

And if it dosn't post, Socket A motherboard are getting pretty exspencive new due to lack of demand. I would check the FS forums here and try and build a barebones from scratch or just buy him a used motherboard if thats all he needs. Maybe a DFI Lanparty for something.

drunkbro : ur post is slightly incorrect, it does not turn on; only a little green light inside the tower goes on for 7 seconds

I hadn't heard much about DFI from that time period, so I looked them up and found one I'd like to replace my old MSI KT400 board with, but I can't seem to find any for sale. Is the Lanparty NFII Ultra B not produced anymore?
