Cheap and safe tropical beach for vacation getaway?

i've been to hawaii from so cal and enjoyed the blue waters very much, but not the overpopuplation of tourists...

any suggestions on nice beach areas to travel to? cabo looks cool but not sure how cheap it is and i'm weary of going to mexico (i guess anywhere south of the US for that matter 😛)

If you want quiet, try Kauai.

Mal Pais in Costa Rica. MUCH cheaper than Hawaii, great waves, great people. There are alot of other fun places in Costa Rica, but this place is fairly uncrowded and very safe IMO.

Barcelo Maya Tropical resort in Playa Del Carmen is AMAZING. Just returned from our honeymoon there. No worries at all...the entire resort is safe drinking water, and the beach is fantastic!

Maui is really nice, and as others have said Kauai is pretty and quiet.
