Cheap and effective portable speakers for laptop for < $40

The JBL Micro II appears to be the only one that's worth it. It's one speaker so it's mono, but you apparently can daisy chain them. I don't know if that means you can get stereo out of it. Regardless most of those units are small, so even with two speakers, they'll end up sounding mono anyhow. It's also self powered, so it actually can be clearer at louder volumes and it's JBL. 🙂 No seriously... all they do is speakers and they have been doing very well for many years. My only worry is they are getting into headphones now... speaking of which. For half that price, why not buy the amazing $20 Koss KSC-75 ear clip headphones.

How much "better" is this than the laptop LENOVO P580 speakers? Someone was telling me that nothing under $100 would provide a noticeable difference.

How happy someone is with audio is a lot like trying to agree on what's tasty food. I think at this point you'll have to listen to it yourself. From online reviews it seems like it's well powered and plays loud with inaudible distortion to the average consumer.

I haven't heard it myself. Like I said, it's probably that price since it is mono, but for things that small, stereo with enough treble will be a feat of acrobatic physics. I myself would rather buy the Koss. They are highly rated and my ears agree. They have a sweet midrange and flat bass. Next up in price that beats it is the $60-80 Grado SR60.
