Cheap ACER really a PLEXTOR?

I thought the Plextors had Burn Proof and also only a 2mg buffer I checked a site that shows waht cd burner is mad e by who and this one is not on there.

No, that's definitely *not* a Plextor. Only Plextor makes Plextors. The 12/10/32 model Plextor makes only has a 2 MB buffer and the "burnproof" thing. The older 8/4/32 Plextor has a 4 MB buffer but not the "burnproof" thing.

"Only Plextor makes Plextors"

Incorrect. I can name two such CDRW's that use plextor *mechanisms*. The Imation drives from earlier this year (8/4/32 I believe), that were sold at CompUSA, used the plextor innards. Also, the TDK Velowriter CDR uses them as well. Its almost painfully obvious on the TDK, because if you look at the software included with it, it looks the same as Plextor software, except its rebadged for TDK.

Just my .02 🙂

Well, I have o loyalty to plextor after a year of waiting 20 seconds for the damn thing to read ANY disc, so ACER it is.

There is also another brand that has used plextors. I think its QPS or something like that. I own the imation, damn fine drive.
