cheap 640x480 capture for virtual dub

I want to buy a good, but cheap card to capture Hi8 video through s-video using VirutalDub and Huffyuv. I'd like it to be compatible with Win2000 Pro or WinXP (if known). The minimum resolution that I'd like to capture at is 640x480. Also, I just need it to capture video (I plan to copy to VCD), not play games, but output and/or TV would be okay. Thanks for any suggestions!!!

I think what we're trying to say without actually saying it is that there really aren't any "cheap" cards that will capture Hi8 video through s-video, especially ones that are compatible with Windows 2000.

640x320? I don't think that Hi8 captures in anything above 320x240... I could be mistaken though. I have a Pinnicle PCTV card that captures TV admirablely. I use a friends ATI to do the bulk of my video capturing. Go DV! 😉

skriefal,

what is the max capture resolution you can use with the wintv? what software have you used to capture?

uncouth,

does the pctv have s-video in? about the ati, which card is it? and, also, what software do you use to capture?

thanks for your suggestions! 😀

I'm able to capture up to 640x480 with my WinTV model 401, using the v3.06 Windows NT/2000 drivers. For capturing software, I've used VirtualDub and AVI-IO.

thanks skriefal!

i hope this helps others looking for cheap alternatives to $100+ video capture cards. plus you get tv! 😎

now to go to the hot deals forum and find a good deal on a wintv...
