It looks like a single port 4 pin (data only, no power like a six pin) card with a TI controller. Not for connecting hard drives and such, but if you are looking for a way to transfer digital video to or from your camera this should work fine.

Wow... I am about to get a DV camcorder, and need a firewire card. Will this indeed do for that application? If so, this seems like a great deal. This is a whole new realm for me, so any input would be appreciated.

hmmm...how would this compare to the belkin refurb? That card is 6.99, i believe, with three 6 pin outputs, and comes with a 6 to 3 pin cable...that would make that a better deal, right? Or is there something i'm missing (also new to firewire and DV technologies)?

The Belkin refurb would be a better card, and a better deal.

Even with shipping it still sounds like a decent deal as long as you don't want to connect drives or anything that needs power. The TI chipset is definitely a plus, it's the most highly recommended for DV.

I bought this card, but now I need some software for it. Does anyone know of any decent free video editing software that will transfer from minidv via firewire? Thanks.

Hmmmm, looks to be a decent deal, and if I pick up that iPod I was thinking about getting, I'll need one of these...
