My video card is dying (weird horizontal shadows appeared, they are caused by faulty hardware because they show up even at POST). I have stopped playing games over a year ago and am financially in a tight spot right now, so I'd like to get a cheap 2d card that supports 1152x864x32@100hz, hardware alpha blending would be nice also. Quality of the produced picture and of the hardware itself is of course important. Also important are drivers and open source support. I don't need it to support any 3d acceleration whatsoever.

What do you people suggest I get?

For some reason, the G550, although it's years old and not too feature full, is not very cheap around here. Are there any other options?

Shouldn't most ATI 7500/gF2MX cards be capable of pushing that?

There simply are not any cards made that don't support 3d. And alpha blending, although in theory possible in a 2d only card is in fact only ever present in 3d cards.
