Well I finally got in on this deal.

Went to Office Max and looked at it there. The one on display was in a lower resolution and had two of the infamous black lines running across it. I knew when I got home it wouldn't look like that. So I bought it with the 1yr protection plan and came to about $350 after taxes.

Got home and set it up. In default settings this monitor rocks, I can only image how good it would look if I had it calibrated. Tested a 1080P sample and it looks much better htan my past LG 22". With the LG, you can see the "dithering" in action and it looked horrid. The Soyo did a much better job reproducing the colors but you can still see a slight "mud" to it. Not enough for me to warrant a return. So I decided to see what gaming would be like. Loaded up DOD:S and began playing. At native resolution 1920x1200 it looks sweet. I did notice a little bit of tearing and a bit of "jitter" , but again, not enough to warrant a return. After about 15 minutes of happy gaming, something bad happens. The infamous black line across the screen suddenly appeared out of nowhere. Thinking I may just need to power cycle it, I did, to no avail. So sadly this will have to go back. I don't think I want to play this type of panel lottery or any other for that matter, including time or gas so I guess I'm going to return this for a refund and get a westinghouse 24". For those who have only enough for this panel, I'm sure it will blow you away. It did me. I just don't have the time or patience to deal with it. Good luck and thanks for the heads up guys! :)

I picked one up, at this price I figured it would be worth a shot. There actually is a DVI cable in the box which is nice considering I had lots of HDMI and DVI to HDMI but no ordinary DVI.

Mine seems to be perfect, no dead pixels. The only thing I'm confused with at the moment is the absolutely horrible colorimeter readings I got out of the box. Average DeltaE was over 130 which is easily 10x the worst measurement I've ever seen. This was set to the factory 6500K setting. Switching to user mode, doing a pre-calibration, and then profiling produced far better results with dE around 0.3 (actually besting my Trinitron CRT's).

Anybody else take a colorimeter to one of these? This was Color Eyes Display Pro with a DTP-94.

I don't see this monitor as a long term solution, it's mainly a stop-gap to reclaim some desk space until I can get a 30" LED backlit for a price I'm willing to pay.

**Posted this in the Hotdeals Forum**

Just picked this up the other day.

This LCD is excellent.

My work has several Dell 2405 and 2407 HC and some gateway 24" LCD.

Viewing Angle: I might be crazy but the viewing angle is great. Almost no dropoff of picture looking horizontally or vertically. I'll take some pictures of the different angles to see what comes out on the camera.

Color: The factory default colors are slightly too bright (I have no clue on LCD terminology, too bright, too much?!?). Went through the default nvidia color calibration and turned down brightness several notches. Colors now look faded. Went through default color calibration again but this time used the LCD's color adjustment instead of nvidia software and colors look great! Looks the same as the 2405 and 2407.

Ghosting: Played several FPS and the refresh is great, no ghosting. I can't comment on this too much as I can't play games at work to test out the dell and gateway.

Subjective quality: At first I thought the edges of the screen were not as uniform in color as the center. That was before I had it in the place of my old 19"LCD which was 1.5 foot from my face. I pushed the monitor about 3 feet away and everything looks very uniform. I don't know a thing about different panel types (TN, PVA, IPS, WTF?!?) but the visual quality is indistinguishable from the 2405 and 2407 at work and slightly better than the gateway 24" LCD (which looks slightly washed out or maybe the brightness is to high).

Weight: For those who care, this thing is light!!! It's lighter than my 19" LCD that I am replacing it with.

*** BTW Viper GTS ***

Since you got a fancy colorimeter to calibrate your screen, can you send me your color profile? PM or email. Thanks!

You'd be better off listening to the subjective reviews of it. I know it is a TN but this is it. Many people are very happy with TNs. If you don't need wide viewing angles they aren't so bad and they have a good response time, especially if they use response time acceleration. It looks as though this is a TN with overdrive. There are more expensive 24" TNs such as the Samsung 245BW but if you're going to get a TN you may as well pay the least and grab the Soyo.

BTW for those who want it, here's my initial color calibration results. This was done using ColorEyes Display Pro with a DTP-94 sensor, this package costs more than the monitor. :D

Well, confirmed S-PVA or P-MVA from those calibration results. The viewing angle spec was misleading because it was actually accurate. Good deal (almost like a clearance deal).

Good to have confirmation! :D

Now to something just as important!

Anyone want to trade the Soyo 24" for my LG 22" ? :p

So for sure this is either a PVA or MVA? Can someone please do a visual check by looking up at the screen from below the monitor at an extreme angle? If it turns dark and discoloured it's a TN.

If you would have taken the time to read the Hot Deals thread you would have seen that that has already been done.

I just went to officeMax and bought one. Definately not a TN display, from checking out the vertical viewing angle. I compared it directly to 2 other TN displays next to it. So its either MVA or PVA. The default colors are way too blue, but can be fixed easily by software or in the display.

No dead pixels, and overall a great picture quality. I would be completely satisifed except for one problem - an annoying buzz from the back of the monitor. Sounds like an electrical buzz from a transformer. It noticable and annoying, and I'll probably have to take this one back and exchange it for another, and hope the noise is gone. I probably wouldn't notice the noise so much if hooked up to my computer, but right now its hooked up to a laptop (with DVI) and very noticable.

Anyone else get the buzzing sound?

I checked mine again this morning, and the buzz is still there. I don't really hear it when its next to my computer, since my power supply drowns it out. If I ordered it online, I would keep it, but since I got it from OfficeMax, I'll return tonight and try another one.

I guess I can take my words and shove it. I'm glad I'm broke, because I would definitely pay for this monitor

For those who are using the settings I provided...

I just noticed that when scrolling through the menu the values shown on the user color option are not consistent. It appears that my settings may actually be RGB = 38/39/35. Half the time it shows what I originally posted.

I'll re-do a profile with the 6500K option selected so that we don't have to deal with this nonsense.

OK, here's a profile using the 6500K pre-set:

So in short:

Use THIS ONE if you stick with the 6500K factory preset.

OR

Use THIS ONE if you use my RGB settings (which may or may not be 38/39/35).

Both should produce good results.

Thanks Viper GTS.

Since the Soyo did not have a windows driver (this monitor is not even listed at the soyogroup.com site and no driver was included with my monitor), a generic MS driver was used.

What do you think about this?

What are my options?
