well, i want a cheap pair of cans for listening to computer (off SB Live value) and cheap portable CD-MP3 player

a buinch of sennheisers are available at newegg

I'm looking at either the HD457 vs HD202 (i know 202 is out-of-stock; ill order elsewhere). the only real difference i know is that the 457 is open-air and the 202 is closed-design.
aesthetics alone, i prefer the 202 :p.
Sennheiser describes the 457 as having a warm bassy sound, but also says that the 202 has good bass response because its designed for "dj and powerful modern music"...kinda the same i guess. the 202 has a closed cup and the 457 is just flat.. theyare both supposed to be comfortable, how will the design of the cup affect the wear?

which one should i buy?

I cant compare them but I have HD457.

For me they are very comfortable. I have always prefered open-air headphones. At first they were a little tight around the head but with use they have gotten better.

The sound is like you said warm and bassy. I use them primarily for games and IMO they do that job very well. I have had them now for around 6 months and there are no visible signs of use so I expect them to last quite a while still.

I have the HD497's and I totally love them! They stay snugly on my ears even when I'm running and the sound quality is really nice with my MP3's:)

Koss has some headphones out (I think the KSC30 and KSC50) and they're about $10-20. They get some good reviews over at the headphonephile forum head-fi.org.

To me I prefer the open sound rather than closed, although closed has its benefits. Open to me is often more convenient as well, as I can hear my cell phone ring. If you want to use your headphones for any portable use, however, consider closed phones. I bought my HD580's with just computer playing and music listening in mind, but I end up taking it on trips with me to the library, and I have to be mindful of the openness there.
