Cheap 2.1 speaker set

Scouzer

Lifer
X-230: $79.99
VS4121: $99.99
VS4221: $129.99
Z4: $129.99

Looking to stay under $100...what do you recommend?

how the hell aare the x-230's $80? the x-530's cost $53 at newegg?

i'd go with the x-230's. they sounds good. but as always, the more you spend, the better the sound will be.

edit: o wait nvm. canadian currency. of course.

I have the x230s and think they are ok for budget speakers. Newegg has them for $43us. I see you are in Canada, so maybe you are talking $can?

Yep, CDN 🙂

I am partial to the VS4121's...but that's because I used to sell them like hotcakes when I used to work for Futureshop. Not sure if they are actually better than the X-230's...

I have the X-230's and they are VERY boomy and bass heavy even with the sub level turned all the way down. if you like that then you'll be happy. But to me, its midrange isn't so great so all you get are hi's and low's. CC often has these on sale after rebate for somewhere around $40.

One thing to keep in mind, something that I didn't when I bought my speakers is the "nicer" the speaker from the same manufacturer, the bigger the sub would be. I bought a Logitech Z-2300 THX set and the sub was so big, I didn't really have anywhere to put it.

I have both the X230 and Z4. They both have excellent bass output, and nice highs. I use the X-230 for my PS2, and games sound awesome, while my Z4's are plugged to my PC. You can't go wrong with either, but for value, get the X-230

Klipsch Promedia 2.1s. Much better then any of the others you listed, and you can get them refurbed @ ebay for less then $100 easy. I got mine like new for $60 on eBay.

heh if you think that sub is big check out the Z-5500's sub 😀 My friend has those and that sub is massive.

I have the Z-2200's.
