Cheap 1080P webcam with mic, claims auto-focus, I have my doubts at that price... $10.99 @ Newegg (FirstPower)

Limit 5 per customer. I've never used these models before, but I bought 5 of them. Hopefully they're not junk.

(Have bought other products from seller "FirstPower" before, HDMI 1080P USB capture dongles for $10, and power meters for $15, both of them worked fine, and were what I expected.)

1080p web cam in a ebay search brings up a bunch, some with same advertising images, similar prices.

The scam if I recall correctly with this type of camera is that the sensor is lower resolution and the output is upscaled.

Let us know how they do.

These are almost 100% going to be ccc and valued at 'you get what you pay for'.

This is one of the reasons newegg's ties to the ccp aren't a good thing as they can peddle this garbage into the us under the guise of a legitimate retailer.

It's not that they outright don't work, because they do. But the image produced is so dark in my case, that they are unusable for my situation. If I used some studio front-lighting they might be usable.

The brightness/contrast/exposure controls that the camera exposes, seem to be hard-coded, and you can't even "tweak" them to get a crappy-but-acceptable picture.

Edit: Thinking about some of these LED "closet light" strips, for some front-lighting, to give these webcams another chance. (Edit: Ordered.)

[Deleted] the depiction in this thread might be a bit over the top.

Well, they're just not good in low-light, like unfortunately too many of the cheaper cameras. So perhaps they are "par for the course", but if I can get a 1440P webcam from Amazon (for $16) that is capable of recording a decently-bright image, even in low-light or back-light, then why can't all webcams?

Could be worse, I paid $1k for our first camcorder, effectively daylight only, or a car headlight level indoor light.

I just recieved my 10-LED white "light bar", motion-activated, supposedly for lighting up closets and stuff, powered by three AAA batteries. Was like $18-20 for a 3-pack, I think. I got two three-packs, as I bought five cameras.

My hope was that with a front-light perched on my monitor, these cheap $11 FirstPower webcams would work better. Well, they do!

In fact, using my test sample webcam, it snapped out of it's "dark funk", and started to work, basically normally. Not the brightest, but acceptable in indoor light. I could actually see myself decently. The most amazing thing? Even when the motion-sensor light shut off, the webcam remained "tuned" better, and was looking brighter. Even closing the AmCap app, and re-opening it, and selecting between the various webcams that I have connected, well, still working!

Amazing! So these weren't a total waste of $11, and the LED front-lights were a good idea!

Weird! See if they still work under total dark. Spelunkers will snap those up fast.

Some cheap cameras do have great low light functionality, like the backup camera on our car, works great in low light. OTOH i guess the backup lights are always on when its working, so that must have something to do with it.
