CHDK

Has anyone used CHDK for Canon P&S cameras? I downloaded it last night, and it's awesome. The addition of RAW is probably the best feature I've found so far... Has anyone else used it? Chime in with tweaks and suggestions!

SD1000, don't care for raw, but mostly... the live battery meter. I finally loaded t his recently. A little cumbersome, as I haven't quite figured it all out. But pretty damn neat.

RAW kicks fuckin ass for those under/over-exposed shots. The live histogram is pretty neat, and the live battery is really nice. I still haven't figured everything out.

I wish I didn't leave my USB adapter at school. I've been meaning to try this for my SX100IS.

Does this replace the old firmware of the Camera, or just modify it? And if so, are you guys backing the old one up?

You can actually just leave it on the sd card and enable it whenever you want. You start the camera in play mode, update the firmware, and once it's turned off it reverts back to the normal Canon firmware. It's more of a 'wrapper' than anything.

Wow, I just loaded this onto my SD870 IS and it's great! Based on my early impressions i would highly recommend this to anyone with a Canon p&s. It took me maybe 10 minutes to get everything going by following the CHDK faq.

My favorite features so far:
-adds a bracketing function that the camera previously didn't have
-greater range of manual shutter times to select from
-ability to shoot in RAW
-better battery meter
-live histogram and DOF information
-"Golden Rule" overlay grid to aid with composition

I'm going on a ski trip this weekend, I can't wait to put some of these new features to use. It's like getting a brand new P&S!

I havent gotten around to this yet... Supposedly RAW is fairly good on the Canon S5 so i might give that a shot. I mostly want the battery meter though.. Today i had to take pictures for a computer case review and BANG, the batteries just decide to die. A little warning would be nice
