CHDK - Canon Powershot custom firmware

Seems like something interesting for the folks with Canon Powershots.

Custom firmware that modifies Canon Powershot cameras. Most interesting in that it adds the ability to shoot RAWs as well as some other features and "fixes" to the Powershots.

I've been using this with my SX10 for a little over a year, mainly for RAW capability. I can't say enough good things about it.

It does not modify the camera's firmware in any way. CHDK runs from the memory card and overrides some of the camera's functions, based on which features you enable.

Took it out the other night to get some pics of the night sky and hopefully a meteor. Got some that you'd never guess came out of a P&S. I even caught a very faint meteor trail.

The settings can be a little tricky for long exposures and high ISO. If you want more than RAW options, be prepared to do a lot of experimenting to get it just right.

I love CHDK, I use it on my SX10. It allowed me to get some amazing images in Yosemite back in May. I loved its bracketing options. I also use the RAW capabilities.

The motion detection is really cool too, I've played with it so I know it works but haven't gotten out to take lighting pictures yet.
