I'd like to see AnandTech add a full-featured chat server to the site. People could go there to get real-time, interactive tech help and advice, rather than wading thru the IRC wasteland to try to find help. I think it would grow to become very popular over time.
 
Bog it down? I've always found the whole AnandTech site to be very responsive. Maybe I get better performance because I'm a subscriber?

Besides, imagine the added bandwidth that would be applied...

What would be nice if there was someone who had a damn damn nice server that would host the chat part of the anandtech site... there would simply be a link to it here so it would always be accessible...
 
There are an extremely large number of complaints about speed already, and they've had to implement bandwidth caps as it is. A fully featuerd real time chat would greatly intensify the bandwidth issues already being experienced.

A popular IRC chan on some server would be cool, especially if you could get a good part of the AT population there. Though really, I guess, a lot of the people in the forums usually refresh pretty often so it's nearly realtime here. 🙂
 
There is a popular channel on an IRC server. I don't like to advertise about it because it brings in the riff-raff, but other people do. 🙂 Search and ye shall find. But you may not like it, I'm an op, I'm a jerk, and it's mostly people that have been banned at least once. 🙂 Err, banned from AT I mean...though a lot have been banned from the server too when an op is in a mood. 🙂
