Chassi fan speed not recognized

I am using the ASUS PC Probe program to monitor the temps and fan speeds. CPU fan is around 3400-3500, chipset fan is 9375 (>50% higher than a minigun 😀) but the chassis fan is not recognized.

It is clearly running, though. When I first installed it, I tried the "FAN Only" connector of the Antec TruePower 480W PSU, but that didn't work at all.

Then I tried a regular power connector and it was running. Seems to work well as it lowered my CPU load temp from maybe 52C to 46C.

I guess it's no biggie since it's working and all, but I'm just confounded as to why it's not recognized by the program.
Maybe it's just a software thing, with the program itself?

Chipset fan is definitely inaccurate - none of these small fans get above 5500 or so, as they'll cavitate at speeds above that.
. What is the rated rpm of the chassis fan? Do you have it on a speed controller? Does it have the 3rd wire for the speed sensor (usually yellow)? Is the speed detected if you connect the fan to another fan header? Some mobos can't read fans down in the low 2000s or less without a BIOS update.
. Is the fan detected and speed shown in the BIOS. If yes and the fan was installed after Probe was installed, then uninstall it and install the latest version of Probe. I don't have a copy of Probe here any more so I can't look and see whether there is a way within Probe to add hardware that wasn't present when it was installed.

That's weird that the chipset fan would be inaccurate. Why would it do that?
I don't get any fan speed at all on the chassis fan. It says 0 (not true; I can tell with my hands) and gives a warning that it is under the threshold.

What is a speed controller? Some sort of separate cable? What's a fan header?
I'll see if it is detected in BIOS but I don't think so.

Probe was installed before the fan.

A speed controller is a device you can connect to fans to control their speed, duuh... I just got a Coolermaster Aerogate I for my box from SVC.com - they carry lots of them from in-line ones to complex front panels with automatic thermal sensor controls for the fans.
. Fan header - 3-pin connector on the mobo for fans (again, duuh). Do you spend all your time in OT or P&N - better get outta that crap before your brain falls out entirely... 😉

. If it's not detected in the BIOS, then either the fan internal tachometer circuit has gone bad or you need to update your BIOS for detecting slow fans. You still didn't mention the make and model of the fan in question, whether it has two or three wires, the rated speed, etc...

AVC Hydraulic...

In other words, no name?

BTW, I more or less never visit those forums, but although I've used computers since 1996 (when I was 10 years old), I've never actually thought that much about hardware before only a couple of years ago. I haven't learned all this basic stuff yet, but these little pushes I get here and there (though the "duuh"'s are a bit unnecessary 😉) help out. 🙂
