im surprised the car made it in the end, with the water being as deep as it was, how did the engine keep going?

I'm really digging the wheel design Ford is putting on the fiesta and the new taurus.

The Corvette driver sucked, but the scene was great.

+1 on momentary's question though. Shouldn't the engine have drowned?

From what I've read at the finalgear boards, the Fiesta was modified for the beach scene. Still though the review accomplished it's mission, I want a Fiesta.

I think the Corvette would be stalling in that situation.

You don't think it's got the torque to launch in 4th?

It sure does... they've done it in 6th on the show before.

The Fiesta looks pretty nice. Interior looks great too. If that was available in the US 6 months ago, I would have purchased one instead of my '09 5-door Toyota Yaris hatchback.

At 1:57 in the video, what's the lake called?

Nope, I accidentally went from around 0-40 in 4th gear, I was wondering why I had to continually apply more power to get a reaction (this was when driving manual was new to me). :p

I was in my stang.

5:57-5:58 may be the funniest thing top gear ever did in 1 second

Hilarious, it looked like the Corvette was drifting the whole time. I lost it when the Vette was shown with its hazard lights on in the birthdays shop.

Nah. It makes nearly 300ftlbs at idle.

I taught my wife to use a manual transmission in the 2.0T Passat. If you are easy enough on the clutch you can start from a standstill, idling, in 6th gear. She was dumping the clutch as it catches at the end of the pedal travel and this was a way to illustrate how to get a smoother takeoff. Not useful in traffic, but an interesting exercise at a vacant parking lot.

that was a z06. Not saying a normal one wouldn't start in 4th, it probably would.

It idles at nearly 4,100 RPM?

ZV

I don't follow. You linked to a dyno with two different engines, neither of which make 300ftlb at 4100rpm...

yeah, both actually make above 300 ft-lb from the beginning of the dyno.

I think what ZV is trying to tell you is idle != WOT, so it doesn't really matter what is on a WOT dyno chart. Also, those charts start at 2100rpm, and no car should idle at that engine speed.

Wouldn't those mods have to be pretty extensive? (protect electrical, spark plugs, and install some sort of snorkel to get air into the engine?)

I should have said right off idle. Obviously one cannot go WOT at idle.
