So I called Chase from the customer service number on their website to ask a question, and they asked for my SSN. I did not give them the number obviously. Or my credit card number. I hung up, but I got their phone number from the actual Chase website. Has anyone else called Chase customer service and had them ask for your SSN?

BTW this is the site I used.

If you are calling them and you used the number on the actual site, it's not likely to be a scam. It's a shame anyone needs to use SSN for verification purposes, but it's probably legitimate.

It's when "they" call you you have to be more careful about what you give out.

Use the number printed on your credit card or bank statement.

This. I can't recall ever being asked for my SSN but I only call them for credit card stuff. For that its last 4 of card + name and address. If I didn't have the right card # or something I could see them wanting my SSN to search for all Chase accounts associated with it
