charter a flight?

I need to fly from DC/metro to Hickory NC. Thers a small airport there, that none of the ticket sites pick up... Is there a website kinda like "find a ride" where I can find someone who would want to fly from somewhere around here, down to that area and I can just chip in for gas?

I found flights for $100 to charlotte NC, but its another 60-80 miles to where i need to be.

I'm buying a car so i only need one way.

One option that could work is, if you hang around a local FBO or flight school you might run across a pilot readying for a trip in the direction you need to go. Some of them are usually friendly and might not mind giving you a lift if they're going that way anyway. It would be expected to offer a few $$ to cover your portion of the expenses. But I don't know how often GA pilots would fly your particular route. In short... it's a possibility but not a likely one... depends on luck mostly.

edit: whether it's one-way or round trip matters not on most charters, as in either case the plane still needs to get back to it's origin. Therefore you'd be responsible for both legs. There are exceptions, but normally it works as mentioned.

didn't think about greyhound...

And for the flight i figured if they're randomly headed that way anyways...🙂

I'll probably end up driving down or riding my motorcycle down and trailering it back....but i just was kinda curious about it.

Why don't you just get a car in Charlotte and drive?

May cost a fortune but I would say if one can afford such a trip it will be one thaat will never be forgotten and will charish for a lifetime doing something like that just to get a car.

I personaly delivered a car from Chicago to Rhode Island and took the train back into Chicago instead of the bus and it was the most fun time I had ever had. Met alot of people. Got tottaly wasted on beer and weed in the bar car and me and a few people drank the car out of beer and played poker all night till we passed out and was a trip I will never forget.

When I was younger and my parents died it never stoped me from doing stuff like that. I would quit a job and just go to a different state. My best frend of almost 17 years said to me one day he was jealous of me because I would at a whims notice say screw it pack up and leave. I been all over this great state and met all kinds of people and had all kinds of different jobs. Do I regret it. Sometimes I do but because of it it has made me into what I am today and now look back at it say I did all that and took jobs that allowed me to do all of that and travel. Now I am married with a great wife, 2 boys, in a home thats paid for and have no plans on going anywhere else any time soon and wish my children when they grow older have the opportunity as I had to be able and the guts to do what I had done and will support them if they decide to do it and become men in that way.

So hey to the OP go for it if you can and if it cost a few bucks more that you saved on the car. You will never regret doing it but can tell you that if you dont and have the means to you will regret never doing it later in life 😉

I had the chance living in FL for work to go deep sea fishing and didnt. Rather took the money and bought a kick ass HT system that was the shite at the time. Now that HT system is long gone and a POS for this times standards and I dont have the memory that would of been much more enjoyable thinking and talking about had I just gone fishing for the day with my boss boosing it up on the boat trying to catch some big ass fish. Dont make the same mistake. Enjoy life and do something different most would of never done and say later in life what you did instead of what you could of done and never did and share the experances of doing it.

Hell hitch hike your way there to gain experances.

glad you agree - Thats part of why i was considering it - My dad used to fly, and Its something that I someday would like to pursue as a personal goal (pilots license)

If its reasonable, i can afford and justify the expense, plus i'd get to see the great countryside in VA.
