Good 'ol Ty was 11-13 his last 2 years and had several blow-out losses.

Anyone who is a "knowledgeable football analyst" or who has an "understanding of major collegiate athletics" would know you just can't use logic like that. UC Davis beat Stanford. Stanford - Notre Dame was a one touchdown game. I guess UC Davis is almost as good as Notre Dame huh? Wrong!

On any given Saturday any one team can beat any other. College football history is littered with huge upsets. What makes teams elite is an ability to perform at a high level every single week. And Notre Dame hasn't demonstrated that in over a decade, including under Weis.

Oh, and about Weis - how much of his success is attributable to Belichick? How much to Brady? It's a bit early to declare him a great coach when he has yet to prove anything on his own.

I see you finally showed your spots with a post like this. Obviously you share the same opinion of many other west coastians in hating Notre Dame, but please realize that just because a coach steps into a team with quality players already on it and does good in his first season, that doesn't nescessarily mean he's overrated.

He doesn't really need to prove much more after being an integral part of the Patriots offense, so I think he deserves the benefit of the doubt in his first year at Notre Dame. Willingham shouldn't even be in this conversation, comparing incoming/outgoing coaches != a scale for telling which coaches are overrated.

Once Charlie gets Klausen going and starts winning National Championships with him, then we'll be able to better tell if he's overrated or rated just fine a little better, but right now it's an asinine theory.

I believe after the first season under Willingham, the media was all over the story about how ND was back. Willingham was going to bring the program back.

THe media freakin LOVES ND.

The media loves them becuase they have such a large fan base. They have such a large fan base because they are the one good football school that fans cheer for because of a religion. Most other schools have either region or alumni based fans.

That being said. Charlie weis is an alright coach, but he's no Jim Tressel.

Go Bucks!

On a side note check out collegefootballnews's Top 31 most overratted teams. Notre Dame is 8th.

As a Penn State fan, I hate to admit that Ohio State is an absolute fvcking powerhouse this year. The only way we'd stand a chance is if we played at home again. You never know though.. maybe Morelli will step up and be a good QB.

Rose bowl...

It saddens me that the tradition of #1 Big-10 vs #1 Pac-10 is no longer the Rose Bowl.

Yeah they do. And how the hell ND makes the top five preseason coaches poll further proves that... they'll be lucky to finish in the top 5 with that schedule.

This is exactly my point. There are much better coaches out there...but we hear about Weis as much as we do about Pete Carrol (who deserves it).

Another overrated coach is Lloyd Carr...

I just hope Notre Dame overlooks Ga Tech just like Auburn did last year. :D

Oh, and Weiss is a good coach, but time will tell if he is a great coach.

Wow, there are a bunch of supposed college football fans in this thread. Maybe you should all join the official Pick 'Em office pool (link in my sig) and see who's the BEST.

but tell me which team below them is likely better than them? sure, ND will probably take a loss or two because of their tough schedule. but the question you ask yourself as a pollster is if the team is the best team that could be ranked at that position?

now, obviously OU is going to fall off once the AP poll came out, as anyone who voted OU high in the coaches poll probably did so before rhett bomar was kicked off. then again, OU has a history of doing well with quarterbacks no one has ever heard of.

Notre Dame, our Mother
Tender, strong and true
Proudly in the heavens,
Gleams thy gold and blue.
Glory's mantle cloaks thee
Golden is thy fame,
And our hearts forever,
Praise thee, Notre Dame.
And our hearts forever,
Love thee, Notre Dame.

Washington is going to beat Oklahoma. They've never lost to Oklahoma.

Hey ND fanboi, I was being facetious. It used to be called the Diamond Walnut Bowl, and Emerald makes NUTS. Just like ND sucks nuts and would give their left one just to get ANY bowl win. Better luck this year following the BITING IRISH. ;)

The reason ND hasn't won a bowl game in a long time is because they ARE OVERRATED!!!

They get bowl games based on their name and fanbase, not their football. So they end up in bowl games they don't deserve to be in. Then they get schooled.

And yeah, I do happen to like ND overall. Of course, Clemson football is going to be back this year and wake all you wankers up.
