First time in my lifetime I can’t watch Charlie Brown Christmas on TV. My entire life that show has been a holiday staple along with the Grinch That Stole Christmas.

What happened to it? Capitalist greed. Apple TV+ bought up the rights and is no longer on broadcast TV for the first time since created

Can’t corporate chieftains just leave some traditions alone?

PS - The Halloween and Thanksgiving Charlie Browns have been gobbled up as well. I bet this also goes for Valentines Day as well

Going to take a wild guess and assume it's cancel culture. I recall something in there that offended the woke people, so probably why they pulled it off. Kinda sad really, it's such an old classic. The woke people are ruining everything.

I should probably try to find a copy of all of these classics before they completely disappear. Some good nostalgia. Even things like Bugs Bunny, no way they would allow that to air now days because of the violence.

The reason the shows are off the air is literally given in the OP. Check the CO level in your house, pronto.

Also - I thought it was millennials ruining everything? Or maybe that was just ruining everything for boomers.

A few years ago, I showed my kids Charlie brown christmas. I remembered it being good from when i was a kid, so I was excited to share this with them. I hadnt watched it in years...like 20 years. We all sat down around the TV and started to watch it. Halfway thru my kids chimed in. "Do we have to watch this, its not very good?" I had to agree. Apart from nostalgia, there is no real reason to watch it imo.

ARRRRRRRR

Seriously though, having local copies of stuff, is the only way to preserve works. Can't trust things like streaming or cable TV etc to always keep the content around - or keep it the same. I think even early versions of shows like Bugs Bunny got altered over the years. Same with Disney classics.

OP - I forgot to mention, check your local library too. The CW Mars network in my area has tons of stuff. It’s basically free, we grab a bunch and watch them in the ole timey DVD / Blu Ray player

I'm holding out for the 8k version. I prefer my 1960s cartoons in that format.

i getting the feeling you jest 😀

the whole bundle was much less expensive than buying all individually though, and those only came on BR.

A BR player is "ole timey", is it? :D

hehe, I had to wipe the dust off it when I started using them again. There was a hint of sarcasm there for sure :D

But really, DVD's are 25 years old, Blu Ray is 15, they could both legally drive.

Good idea. One of the things that really annoys me are the studios that own the rights to a show but refuse to stream it and won't show it on broadcast tv

I remember when all TV was free, every bit of it. I don't pay for any TV. I hate what they've done. I can't even watch the championship football college bowl game, nor most of the top tier bowl games unless I go to some bar. Even the NFL has sold out with Monday and Thursday night football on ESPN.

A whole lot (maybe most) of the edgy adventurous TV programming is only available if you pay monthly access fees. Cable and dish TV, exclusive TV channels have monetized the media. Poor? Too fucking bad, they're glad to keep you ignorant.
