I'm going to to going to Japan soon, and was wondering if I could charge my Gameboy while I'm there.

Well, my question would be (not owning an SP) -- is the rectifier in the wall wart or the SP itself? if it's in the SP itself, and the wall wart is just a transformer, then you need an adapter kit, since, IIRC, Japan uses 50hz for their power. If the wall wart has the rectifier in it, then you can just go out and buy a replacement charger while you're in country.

I didn't need any step down adapters in japan most of the outlets I saw were 110v.

If you're staying in hotels overseas, a power apapter is often included with the room or available at the front desk... but I plugged in my Dell laptop all over the place in Tokyo and Kagoshima, and I don't remember there ever being an issue.

I bought my gameboy sp in japan and haven't had a problem charging it in America. seems logical that the reverse would work just as well.

I believe it should work just fine. The power adapters on the Japanese and American Nintendo stuff are the same.

Should be OK. I think Japan is 100v. The prongs though might not fit if you have the ones that are different sized.

Eastern Japan has no problems with American electronics, period. Well, stuff with big motors like hair dryers and clippers tweak out, as the frequency is slightly off. Western Japan is hit or miss depending on the age of the buidings.

I live almost as west as you can get in Japan. Charge my gameboy no problem all the time. They use the same everything as in America.

Western Japan is 60Hz (same as the US), Eastern Japan is 50Hz.

Voltage is 100v all throughout, the only US thing I couldn't get to work was a popcorn popper.

The plug is basically the same, though they don't have the 3prong outlets and the prongs are the same size (some US plugs are the same, others have one prong that is slightly bigger). For the most part outlets are made to accept both.
