Hi all i'm just wondering if there are any special charges or so if i buy online stuff from the US. For example, i'm planning to buy the 256MB PC2100 DDR for around $70 US from Crucial.com, and i'm from Ontario canada, where the Tax rates (PST + GST) = 15%. Let say if i'm gonna buy that ram, how much would it cost for me in Canadian money after the taxes and all of those special charges (if any). I do believe $1US is approximately $1.5 CND. Thanks in advance

Best Regards.

LMAO! :D

Just for your info, if you buy with credit card from in USD, and your bank uses CND, then your bank determines the exchange rate. They have some funky calculation. Possibly average daily exchange rate the day your card is charged. Why dont you just use an exchange calculator. And I don't think you need to pay tax..... (i may be wrong)

Your post may be off-topic, but who am I to say? Actually, this could be a hot deal for Canadians if buying online from the US allows them to avoid the confiscatory sales and "value-added" taxes (VAT).

Why don't you phone or write Crucial and ask them?

Okay, ive done this before Ti.

You do get charged tax on the order. It is 15%. As for the dollar exchange, you are looking at more like 1.6 USD = 1 CND. So your final price will be like 128.8 CND. I think that was everything I had to pay.

It can get pretty expensive to buy stuff from the US and get it shipped to Canada. First the you are buying in US Dollars is converted to CAN Dollars If it is computer stuff there is only PST and GST on the total of the cost of the goods (that also includes shipping)+ "Service Charge" for bringing it across the border. The "Service Charge" is about $15 CAN Dollars for small stuff. So your $70US RAM is about charged buy credit card (current exhange rate + 2.5% or so) 1US = 1.54CAN

70US * 1.54 = 107.80
PST = 8.62
GST = 7.55
Service = 15
Total = 138.97 Canadian $

I know you are not getting "Crucial" RAM but you can probably get micron or similar ram for about the same locally. (at least here in Vancouver you can):D

Borderfree.com is a good place for Canadian shoppers to check out. They act as an agent to help Canadians buy from US sites and get the products shipped over the border, even if the U.S. company doesn't normally ship to Canada.

Beware of UPS - they like to gouge you with ripoff "broker" fees to deliver items from the US to Canada. If you're the recipient, you may have to pay these surprise charges before they'll give you your package. At least that's what they used to do - I'm not sure if they still do.

My price is accurate. I never got a service chare and if the exchange is closer to 1.54 thats even better. I would jump on this deal (free shipping to Canada) if I didnt already a 256 MB stick.

Note, this RAM kicks the shiznit out of other RAM! I get around 700 more 3D marks with crucial comparded to regualar RAM. It runs faster and is more stable. Just my $0.02.

I got the RAM shipped FedEx. It could be different if they ship UPS.
