Charge for CD Duplication

Someone wants me to duplicate(no piracy) their CDs for them since I have a CD-RW drive and they don't. What would be a fair rate for CD duplication? I'll be placing a laser printed label on them and providing a slimline case for each CD.

$2 per disc? Depends on whether or not s/he is a close friend or not. For friends, do it at cost; for others, charge them whatever they'll pay!

Try asking for $3 each at first, and then back down to $2 so they feel like they are also getting a deal...

i charge my friends for (disc alone...no labels...no jewel case) $1 a disc (my cost, essentially). I suppose $2 wouldn't be asking much for your troubles...$3 is borderline of pushing it. Get what you can.

**on a sidenote...i went out of my way for a friend at work for whom i normally charge $1 for each disc (i DL and burn stuff for him since he only has shotty dial-up). It was friday afternoon and he asked me for a copy of windows 98 (uninstalled @ my house...technically, he could take it from us since we no longer use it). He only used the CD for the purpose of installing a legit copy of XP on his son's computer, and i knew that if i went home to burn it, i'd be late for work. I told him no way, then we agreed that i'd do it for $5 (to cover the fact that i'd be late coming back from lunch which COULD result in a write-up). So i went home, burned it, came back about 15 minutes late, and asked him for the $5. He tried bargaining down to $4. Then $3. I got so flustered i said forget it. So not only was i late back to work, but i was also out the money for the CD and now i have a blemish on my attendence at work. I'm not making any more CDs for him again, friend or not.

Charge for CD: $2
Charge for computer usage time: $1
Charge for electricity: $0.50
Charge for cleanup: $0.25

If bad burn charge: $1

All prices pro-rated of course.

i can understand charging strangers but why do you charge your friends for cd duplication?? if they're your friends, why don't you do it for free? and electricity and clean up charges? i must be missing something. If there's another reason for charging other than making money or trying to recoup the cost of cds, someone please tell me. If you're trying to recoup the cost, why don't you just not burn anything for anyone except yourself so you won't have to try and recoup? Maybe you won't get to use all 50 or 100 cds from your spindle but that's ok, isn't it? If they're going to use a high volume of cds, tell them to get their own. i'm not criticizing but I just don't understand why you're not doing it as a favor (for free) to your friends and you're charging them a buck or two.
