I must have the owrst luck when it comes to charcoal. I bought a bad of matchlight charcoal less than 2 weeks ago. Lit up fine thate first day I used it. Tried again today to use it and had to pour lighter fluid on it.
This isn't the first time either. Same thing happened last summer. I thought I must have just had a bad bag. Does it have to be stored air tight or something?
I have also tried kingsford before and it basically did the same thing. lIghts fine first use. Try again 2 weeks later and it won't light for nothing.
Any tips? (Besides buy a gas grill)

Are you at least closing the bag. I've never had trouble with Kingsford.

Sounds like you live in a super moist environment or something.

We've had bags of briquettes outside for years, and they still worked fine.

You need to put more charcoal lighter fluid on it. It will burn unless it has gotten soaking wet. Don't believe people who say that the fluid causes a bad flavor, either, it all burns off before you put your food on the grill.

Oh, I use Kingsford. I buy about 100 lbs. at a time.

Gas sucks, btw.

Charcoal adds good flavor. Gas adds.. no flavor.

Well, at least one bag of match light and one of kingsford I left in the shed. This is in GA and we have had alot of rain so it's humid. The last bag I kept on a screened in porch. Meant to put in garage but got lazy.
Next bag will go in the garage. hopefully it will be better.

Sounds like the tube vs solid-state amplification debate. :p

I prefer meat flavor!

Yep Kingsford is great. Use 1.6 oz of lighter fluid per pound of charcoal. Also the "pyramid" theory is flawed. Put the coals in a nice even double layer. With the pyramid it takes forever and the underlying coals don't get lit.

or use a chimney.
