I'm applying for security clearance for my new job. I can't get the job until 2 weeks after I file. The problem is that the McDonald's I worked at 4 years ago won't give me the details of when I worked there (I need exact dates) until friday, which is delaying pretty much everything else.

Sorry, I needed to vent a bit. ;)

Do any of you keep exact records, to the date, of when you worked and lived in different places?

You have your pay stubs from 5 years ago?

This has all taught me a valuable lesson about keeping track of these kinds of things.

I have my paystubs dating back to 1996.

yes... for exactly reasons like this and for the fact that the IRS can audit you for up to 3-6 years (sometimes even more) after your tax return.

Interesting.

The new job told me to just call them when I was ready. I work at another McDonald's now, and I was hoping to be out of there soon. It's just another week though.

You don't need "exact" exact dates if all you're applying for is Secret. Beyond that, I can't say anything.

So do I. $6/hr washing dishes when I was 16. I actually kind of enjoyed that job.

I see you blaming McDonald's, but the reality is that it's YOUR responsibility to have such information... Not theirs. Shouldn't the thread be titled "Chaotic sucks..."?

At any rate, what would happen if you just produced a couple of dates that are very close? I doubt anyone is going to check on it.

I work at another McDonald's now. It sucks that I have to work there another week.

As for your question, I need exact dates.

Well, I'm not disagreeing that working at McDonald's sucks... (Not that I've ever worked at a McD's, but I have worked other fast food. I imagine they all suck pretty much the same.) But it's not primarily their fault you don't have the dates you need.

I know.

It never occured to me to keep records of those things.

I have each and everyone of my paycheck stubs, arranged chronologically in a file folder, from every job I've worked, even the empty stubs from the weeks where I might not have worked...

I can tell you the exact dates I started, weeks I was on vacation, weeks I was sick (which is pretty easy to begin with because it's "none") and what day I left.

I wouldn't expect a fast food place to keep track of the 300 employees it probably has every year... Just because you hung around for a while doesn't mean they should know, either. So they probably have to send something to their main office and wait for a response, which really isn't their fault, it's their PROCEDURE.

So I still don't see how McDonald's sucks.
edit: in regards to this situation. We all know their food sucks ;)

Yeah.

It's easy work, but when I look at my $358 paychecks it's hard to say "i'm lovin' it". ;)

Looks like we may be delayed a couple of days anyway, the HR woman has been out of work for a couple of days, I guess she's sick.

Ah, well. More steak bagels for me. :)
