Ok I have a gigabyte extreme motherboard. It went bad on me so I bought the
Evga e760
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813188048

Can I just hook up my exsisting raid from the gigabyte motherboard and it will be fine or do I half to reinstall the os on it. Hopefully I dont because I had my os on a Intel ssd and it went bad waiting for an rma on that in the mean time I dont wanna reinstall windows like 4 different times lol.

EDIT:::

I also have a question about the sli on the following board. I will post a picture and take the text right out of the manual.

NewBitmapImage.jpg

Pci Numbering guide to help with the problem
untitled.jpg

Starting at the left It goes (Got from the manual)
6. Red PCIe x8 slot 5
5. Red PCIe x16/x8 slot 4
4. Black PCI slot 1
3. Red PCIe x8 (E760) slot 3
2. Red PCIe x16/8 (E760) slot 2
1. Black Pcie *1

From the manual Use both pictures to solve the problem please
Above you see the EVGA X58 SLI ClASSIFIED housing a Creative X-Fi PCIE 1x Audio Card, 3 x GTX 285s in 3-way SLI and a 9800GT for dedicated PhysX.
There are 2 types of 3-way SLI Bridges bundled, the first is for hooking up PCIE slots 2,3,5. Another for hooking up PCIE slots 2,3,6 in 3-way SLI while using a fourth video card for PhysX.

Now from the best results for sli should I use the 2,3,5 or 2,3,6

Now the difference is if I use the 2nd one I can place another card in the 5th slot (the2,3,6) My question is though is it going to hurt the performance of my sli system From what I have been made to understand is that 16x is the quickest you can get right now. I know if you hook them up in different ways It can change things to 8x or even 1x. I wanna avoid the smaller numbers. But if the configuration is going to be the same either way then my best bet would be the 2,3,6 one. That will allow for a physx card to be placed in.

Now my other question is does it have to be a physx card can I add a different type of expansion card into like a raid or sound card or usb 3.0 when it becomes more popular

RECAP
1. Can I take my Raid From my gigabyte extreme hook it up to the evga and have it work without having to reinstall windows.
2. Which sli will give me the best format Using 2,3,5 or 2,3,6
3. Now if I use the 2,3,6 system do I have to place a physx card into the 5th slot or can I place another pcie card in there (ex. network card, raid card, sound card, usb 3.0 card When they come out)

Now I appoligies for how long this thread is but it was the only way I could think of to explain everything. If there are any questions on my format please ask. I should be getting the card tommarow and really wanna get it all setup right away. I am not a very patient person lol.

Thanks for all your help :)

No wonder your motherboard failed. Your putting a heavy load on your board with 3 video cards, even if the power supply can handle it. I would try 2 of your video cards for awhile in the 2 16x slots and see how they perform. It's alot of hassle returning stuff even when it's under warranty. The raid array won't work in a new motherboard; time to install windows again. So my suggestion makes even more sense. You can sell the third card or save it for a spare.

1. Pretty sure you need to reinstall windows.
2. The only cards that currently need x16 are dual gpu cards, so you will see no difference between 2,3,6 and 2,3,5.
3. You do not have to put physx in slot 5, you can put any PCI card in slot 5.

GTX 295 is the Dual GPU, previous to that, it was the 9800GX2.
260, 275, 280, 285 are all single GPU designs.

Yeah 280 is a dual slot gpu, so it takes up 2 card slots worth of space (like most powerful cards today do) but it only has 1 gpu.

Hey just wanted to post I didnt have to reinstall windows. All I did was hook up the hd to the motherboard and change the settings to raid in the bios and BAM it was all good to go. Know I just have to wait to get my rma for my ssd before I have to reinstall windows.

WOOT WOOT. lol sorry just so happy it worked saved me a ton of work
