In regards to performance it's a YMMV thing. Rule of thumb is you set it to 1/2 your system RAM, but anymore, it can be set to anything and really yield little to no performance difference. What it does is sets aside a specific portion of system ram to use if the ram on your video card "runs out" of space. Play with it and do benchies and set it to whichever yields you the best performance.
