changing xp icons just for desktop?

Hey gang I wanna be able to change the icons for Windows XP items on the desktop, but leave them default everywhere else in the OS.. such as My Computer and Recycle Bin... if you cange the icons using the Change Icon feature in Customize Desktop, then it changes that icon for everywhere the item is used, including explorer and the start menu, etc...

Is there any way to have it change to where it will only change on the desktop and nowhere else?
