changing wheels question

I currently have a set of staggered wheels... 20x10" fronts and 20x11" rears. I am thinking of a new set of wheels to change it up after 4 years, but they are 20x8.5" fronts and 20x9.5" rears.

Is there any issue with keeping the same rubber? Possibly because of the extra 1.5" stretch already done on each?

Anything else I need to be concerned about? I've never put old rubber (still has more than half tread life left) on new rims.

Depends on the size of the tires in question. What are the sizes? Don't forget you have TPMS as well. You will need to swap that, or buy new sensors.

What tire size/specs? They will have a rated wheel width specification that will dictate if it's safe to re-use them or not.

There are suggested / recommended wheel sizes with each tire - here's one for Yokohama that will probably be close. Also - that's a big drop in size - it may affect how your car handles.

Putting 4 year old tires on new rims might be a mistake - tires have an expiration date that, sometimes, comes before they wear-out.

Do they new rims have the proper offsets? Also, tires are rim width specific so they may not be compatible. It will also change the handling characteristics of the tires.

tires are Toyo Proxes STII:
275/40/20
315/35/20

- thx for the advice on the approved rim width - looked it up and front says: 9.0-9.5-11.0. 🙁
- I've swapped in new rubber on these rims before, so the TPMS exchange I've done, not a big deal
- 20s on an SUV is not too large. In fact it's common. It's the factory setup for the sports pkg actually.

IMO, the tires are too large for the wheels.

I wouldn't go over a 265/35 on an 8.5" and wouldn't go over a 295/35... maybe a 305/35 on a 9.5" wheel.
