Changing video cards

I'm thinking of switching from a GeForce 256 SDRAM to a GeForce 2 or Ultra. I'm using Detonator 3 drivers. After I switch to VGA Standard Display Adaptor before installing the new card, should I uninstall the D 3's manually also, then re-install them after the new card is in? Or is it enough to reboot in VGA and either use the already installed drivers or re-install over the top?

Also, how do you think I'll fare with an Ultra in combination with a P-III 667EB? Do you think I need more processing power? I play and play-test a lot of sports games, some action shooters and auto and flying simulations. Thanks.

First off may I make a suggestion on a videocard? Have you considered ATI's Radeon, in particular the 64mb Vivo model which can be hadfor around $240 or less? I own a GeForce DDR (Prophet) and it is an excellent card, but in comparision with the Radeon it is a notch below in visual quality and with 7041 drivers(have not ried the latest yet!) is fast enough for the FPS games I like to play the most! Namely, Q3,Q Arena,UT, Deus Ex and Half-Life.
But if you are set on a GeForce, I recommend following "standard" procedure for removing and installing new drivers. That is to remove the current card and uninstall the drivers. Change adapter to "standard super VGA" display and use windows driver. After re-boot go in to display properties, advance tab ,adapter tab, and click "change". "Point" windows to the folder where the drivers for your new card are at(you did download, unzip and made a folder on your hard drive for them, right?) click that, and windows "finds" the inf. file, click that and the install happens! Good Luck!
