changing vid cards...

hey all,

i'm about to upgrade my geforce 5200 to a x800xt PE. what are teh steps that i should take?

should i uninstall the old drivers first and then unplug the old card? unplug old card and install new card and then uninstall old drivers?

uninstall Nvidia drivers
restart
run DriverCleaner in Safe Mode
restart
install ATi drivers
shutdown
install video card
start up

skiped the part where you remove the Nvidia card.

Though the manufacturer always recomends installing the drivers first and then the card, I always do it backward and havent had a problem.
Sort of like when you reformat, you dont remove all of the cards, just install the drivers.

Uninstall nVidia drivers, reboot, run Drivercleaner in safe mode, shut down, remove nVidia card and install ATI card, boot up, install ATI drivers, reboot, have fun.

thanks all. so it does't make a difference if i install the ATI card first and then ATI drivers? is that what ppl usually do?

also, when you guys say "run driverclean in safe mode", do you guys mean boot windows in safe mode?

I usually install the card first, then the drivers (but you have to do it the other way around for some wireless ethernet cards). It's like building your comp...first you put it together, then install the drivers!

As for safe mode, you can enter safe mode by pressing F8 (or whatever it says on your bootup screen) during bootup (between the time you press the power button to the time you see the Windows splash screen). Safe mode basically runs Windows with the minimal requirements, and lowers the risk of data corruption etc.
