Bought a 02 Chevy Prizm last year right before the rise in gas prices. It had 67K on it when I bought it and obviously hadn't been taken care of very well. I immediately got the oil changed, 4 wheel alignment, new tires, and changed out the serpentene belt (minor crackage).

After my last oil change, they said my transmission fluid was a bit dark. So I was thinking about changing it.... apparently this particluar car has a drain plug, so I don't have to remove the pan. But, if I remove the pan, I can change the filter.

It's got 77K on it now and is honestly due for a new filter, but to be honest, I just don't feel like changing it out right now. You guys think I'd be ok with just a fluid exchange?

Thanks guys!

EDIT: I'm retarded, for some reason I kept writing power steering when I meant transmission. I just changed out my power steering hoses last week on my truck, must've been a brain fart. Sorry for the confusion!

Power steering fluid or transmission fluid?

Can't hurt to drain and fill. Better than doing nothing. Do the filter later.

There are PS Fluid filters on lots of cars, but no pan, and the PS fluid and filter are not normally changed unless there is a problem.

In fact the PS filter is rarely mentioned at all.

I was certain the topic had to be the transmission and not the power steering.

You should be okay with a drain and fill for now provided there are no issues. Besides most aftermarket filter kits don't have decent quality pan gaskets and end up leaking anyway. :)

After reading my damned post, I must've been drunk.

I'm thinking I'm just gonna man up and replace the filter anyway, better safe than sorry. Found a filter kit for $20 locally.
