Changing the Message Title and Topic Summary of a current Thread

The Message Title and Topic summary are self-explanatory.

Can the originator of a "thread" change the Message Title and the Topic Summary when he or she wants to keep the "thread" going but need to change the aforementioned text so that it suits the CURRENT needs of the post ???

If so, how does one accomplish this ???
