My default speakers are set to 5.1 but now that I use my headphones more than anything, how do I set the default speakers to Headphones? I can change them to headphones but everytime I restart my computer it reverts back to 5.1. Thanks.
Manually changing is an option. If you want to spend big bucks ... lol the x-fi with the breakout box has an option to automatically switch to headphone mode and mute the speakers when a headphone is connected.
For the audigiy if you have a breakout box it might have the same option.
And Goosemaster, I already said that when I change it through speaker settings, it only changes it temporarily. After I restart my comp it goes back to 5.1
Apparantly the Audigy program overrides that. It's set to headphones in the Windows one and it's always set to headphones, but there's an obvious change in sound when switching from 5.1 to headphone in the Audigy program, so the Windows one doesn't look like its doing anything.
It prevents windows or other programs from overriding your speaker settings - just set it to headphones (along with your sound card control panel) and it should work. Add it to your startup folder if you want to keep it when you reboot.
I don't think it makes a difference either way. You are still getting stereo output in your front left/right line-out, and that's all your headphone plays anyway. You shouldn't worry about the "setting." If you had the "setting" to laptop speakers you'd still get full 7.1 in gaming.
