Changing the background of an Edit Control

I have a project that originated in MS C/C++ 6.0 and has been migrated to .NET but is not a full .NET app. I would like to change the background of an edit control but cannot seem to see how to do it. Its simple in VB but the way to do it in C/C++ seems to elude me. Any suggestions?
